Standardized Outcome Measures Flashcards
What is intrarater reliability?
Consistency of repeated measurements by the same person overtime
What is interrater reliability?
Consistency of repeated measurements by more than one person
What is minimal clinically important difference (MCID)?
Smallest difference in patients condition that the patient or clinician considers worthwhile that would warrant a change in patients management.
What is minimal detectable difference (MDD)?
- Minimum detectable change in a patient’s condition beyond the threshold of measurement error
- Smallest difference of change that would be statically significant
Why were CPG’s established?
Effort to streamline and standardize assessment tools for individuals with neurologic conditions
What is the cutoff score for Berg Balance Scale?
Under 45 indicate fall risk
What is the purpose of the Berg Balance Scale?
Assess static/dynamic sitting and standing balance and fall risk in adults
What is the purpose of the functional gait assessment?
Assess changes in dynamic walking balance while walking
What it the cutoff score for older adults of the functional gait assessment?
less than or =22/30 indicates fall risk
What is the alder adult cutoff score of the Activity specific balance confidence scale?
<67%
When interpreting the 10 meter walk test what is the cutoff for household ambulator?
<0.4 m/sec
When interpreting the 10 meter walk test what is the cutoff for limited community ambulator?
0.4 to 0.8 m/sec
When interpreting the 10 meter walk test what is the cutoff for community ambulator?
0.8 to 1.2 m/sec
When interpreting the 10 meter walk test what is the cutoff for able to safely cross streets?
> 1.2 m/sec
What is a gain of 0.1 m/s on the 10 meter walk test a predictor of ?
- Well being in those without normal WS
- A change of 0.1 m/sec should be patient goal
What is the purpose of the 6 minute walk test?
Assess changes walking distances
What is the purpose of the 10 meter walk test?
assess changes in gait speed
In regards to the 6 minute walk test what is the MDC for geriatrics?
58.2 m
Using the 5 time sit to stand what is the cutoff score for community dwelling older adults?
> 15 seconds = risk of falls
What does the 5 time sit to stand assess?
Sit to stand transfers
What does the Activities -specific Balance confidence scale assess?
Changes in balance confidence
When using the timed up and go (TUG) what score must the patient earn to be considered:
- Independent
- Increased risk for falling
- High risk for fall
- Independent: <10 sec
- Increased risk for falling: >20 sec
- High risk for fall: >30 sec
When using the timed up and go (TUG) what score indicates a community dwelling adult is a fall risk?
> 13.5 seconds
What is the cutoff score for community dwelling elderly when using the dynamic gait index (DGI)?
<19/24 predictive of fall risk
What does the dynamic gait index assess?
- Gait, balance, & fall risk
- Patients ability to modify balance while walking presence of external demands
What is the cut off score (chronic stroke) when using the mini BESTest?
less than or = 17.5 indicates risk of falls
What is the purpose of min BESTest?
Assess balance, gait & fall risk
What is the cutoff score for older adults when using the Tinetti Performance Oriented Mobility Assessment?
<19
What it the purpose of the Tinetti Performance Oriented Mobility Assessment?
measure gait & balance
What is the purpose of the 2 minute step test?
Assess ability to march in place endurance
What is the purpose of the four square step test (FSST)?
Dynamic balance and coordination that assess the patients ability to step over objects forward, sideways & backwards
What it the cutoff score for older adults/geriatrics when using the four square step test (FSST)?
> 15 seconds = at risk for multiple falls
What is the cutoff score for each age range when using the functional reach test?
- 20 to 40 years
- 41 to 69 years
- 70 to 87 years
- 20 to 40 years: 14.5-17 inches
- 41 to 69 years: 13.5-15 inches
- 70 to 87 years: 10.5-13.5 inches
What functional ADLs does the back scratch test relate to ?
Donning & doffing shirts & bra
When interrupting the modified falls efficacy scale what does higher score and lower scores indicate?
- Higher scores: more confidence and less fear of falling
- Lower score: less confidence and more fear of falling
What is reported on the medical outcomes study short form (SF-36)?
Patients reported outcome measure that qualifies health status and measure health related quality of life
What is the mean score for the medical outcomes study short form (SF-36)?
50
When interpreting the levels of cognitive impairment using the mini mental state examination (MMSE) what scores indicate:
- None
- Mild
- Severe
- None: 24-30
- Mild: 18-23
- Severe: 0-17
When interpreting the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCa) what score indicates normal and what is the cut off score?
- Normal: 26-30/30
- 25 or below may indicate mild cognitive impairment
When interpreting the Saint Louis University Mental Status Exam (SLUMS) what is the scores the indicate:
- Normal
- Mild Neurocognitive Disorder
- Dementia
- Normal: 27-30
- Mild Neurocognitive Disorder: 21-26
- Dementia: 1-20
