identifies stakeholder power and attention in order to understand politic priorities
power
how much power and influence do they have based on their positions?
awareness/attitude
how much are they aware of the impact of the project?
interest
how high is their vested interest in the project outcome?
support
are they supportive or resistant to the project?
irrelevants
low power and low interest, they should be monitored with minimal effort
gadflies
low power and high interest, they should be informed constantly
sleeping giants
high power and low interest, should be kept satisfied
key players
work closely with stakeholders who have high power over the project and a high interest in it.
steps
- identify and understand them
- prioritise and categorise them
- place them in appropriate quadrant
- monitor them continuously and move them round the quadrant as their interest/power evolves
- influence your stakeholders
mapping issues
determining purpose and strategy - whose expectations need to be prioritised?
who are the key blockers and facilitators of strategy?
is it desirable to try to reposition certain stakeholders?
can the level of interest or power of key stakeholders be maintained?
will stakeholder positions shift according to the issue/startegy being considered?
