Acid fast stain

Called acidophilic
Therefore it can bind to acidic parts eg nucleic acids

Staining carbohydrates and glycoproteins
They will stain pink/magenta

Describe the process of Gram Staining
A
- Add crystal violet solution (which is positively charged)
- Add iodine
- Acetone/methanol is added to wash the slide
- Add pink/red safranin dye
- Gram positive will appear purple
Gram negative will appear pink
