Connective Tissue Flashcards
What types of cells would be present in loose areolar connective tissue? And which fibres?
Many cells- plasma cells, fibroblasts, macrophages, mast cells. Fibres- arranged irregularly, collagen, elastin
What cells and fibres would be present in adipose connective tissue?
Mainly adipose cells supported by collagen and type III collagen (reticulin). In the fat cells the nucleus is often peripheral
What cells and fibres would be present in dense regular connective tissue?
Few cells but mainly fibroblasts, thick parallel collagen fibres
What cells and fibres make up dense irregular connective tissue?
Hap-hazard arrangement, bundles of collagen with few cells (fibroblasts, macrophages)
Example of dense regular connective tissue? What is it characteristics?
Tendons, ligaments- highly resistant to tension, can stretch
Example of loose irregular connective tissue and function?
Dermis layer of skin, lamina propria
Example of dense irregular and characteristics?
Periosteum, dermis, su mucosa- resists impact, minimally vascularised
What is type I collagen used for?
Most common, are in fibrils and fibres, tendons, bones, high tensile strength
What are XY most likely to be in type I collagen?
Proline, Hydroxyproline
What is type III collagen called and where it is mostly present?
Called reticulin
Form fibres aRound muscles and nerves
What is the function of connective tissue?
Support other structures, provide medium for diffusion, protection
