stages of stroke recovery Flashcards
1
Q
Three major phases
A
initial: flaccidity
then spasiticty, hyper-reflexia and synergies (mass patterns of movements)
late in recovery: isolated and advanced movement patterns become possible
2
Q
Stage One
A
flaccid, no limb movement
3
Q
Stage Two
A
synergies may appear
spasticity begins to develop
minimal voluntary movement
4
Q
Stage Three
A
spaticity increases and may become severe
5
Q
Stage Four
A
some movement independent of synergies
spasticity begins to decline
6
Q
Stage Five
A
If patient progresses, synergies no longer dominate
voluntary movement becomes more complex
7
Q
Stage 6
A
spasticity is gone
coordination and movement approach normal
