Stages Of Development Flashcards
Brain development in prenatal stage
16 days after fertilisation the embryo developes a neural tube, this later becomes the brain and spinal cord
6-20 weeks gestation cells are created. They follow a process called migration where they move to the correct location in the brain where they become neurons and begin to form the nervous system
2 month’s gestation the neural tube divides into brain and nerve cells. This forms the cerebral cortex which is divided into 4 sections frontal lobe, temporal lobe, parietal lobe and the occipital lobe
End of second trimester the baby’s nervous system has developed enough so they can react to loud noises outside the womb
When baby is born 100 billion neurons are formed
Brain development
Childhood
5 moths the new synapse allow the baby to see in 3d
At 3 the density of the synapses in the pre frontal cortex is at its peak. This allows the child to use past experience to understand the present
They also understand cause and effect
They prune neural connections
Brain development
Adolescence
They grey matter reaches max density
Lambic system is first to mature
Regulated emotions
Pre frontal cortex is last to develope
Frontal lobe cobtinues to develop during adolescence and reaches maturity at 16
Stages of BD
Adulthood
25 pre frontal cortex finally matures
Makes rational decisions
Reduces impulsivity
Focus on long term consequences
