Moms and Babies visited every month for 1 year
Researchers asked moms questions about the babies behaviour regarding separations and when meeting a stranger
What were their findings?
25-32 Weeks, 50% had a specific attachment
40 weeks, 80% had a specific attachment and 30% had multiple
What are the 4 stages of attachment?

2) Indiscriminate
3) Specific

Define the Asocial Stage
Baby recognises and forms bonds with carers but show preference
Behaviour to humans and objects is similar
When does the asocial stage occur?
During the first few weeks
Define the Indiscriminate Attachment stage
Babies show preference for humans, they recognise and prefer familiar adults.
Don’t show separation or stranger anxiety.
When does the Indiscriminate Attachment stage occur?
2-7 months
Define the Specific Attachment Stage
Begin to display separation and stranger anxiety
Babies have formed a specific attachment to their PCG
When does the Specific Attachment Stage occur?
around 7 months
Define the Multiple Attachment Stage
Secondary attachments are made to adults they regularly spend time with
