stage of infection Flashcards
What is the Incubation Period of an infection?
The pathogen is present, but the innate immune system has not yet produced noticeable symptoms. This is the time between exposure and the onset of symptoms.
What happens during the Prodromal Stage of an infection?
he innate immune response begins, leading to nonspecific symptoms like mild fever, malaise, and fatigue. This is the early stage of an infection, before specific signs appear.
What occurs during the Full (Acute) Stage of illness?
The immune response intensifies. Both innate and adaptive immunity are more active, leading to specific symptoms such as fever, pain, swelling, and fatigue as the body fights the infection.
What is the Convalescent Period in an infection?
The infection resolves, and the body recovers. Adaptive immunity strengthens, and immune memory is formed to protect against future infections by the same pathogen.
