Tell how the Emperor Augustus was involved in the works of Virgil and Horace.
- He was their patron
- The Emperor was introduced to their work by his friend, Maecenas
In what two ways did Ovid displease the Emperor Augustus? What did Augustus do to Ovid as a result?
- He was involved in a scandal in the emperor’s family
- He wrote Ars Amatoria (The Art of Love)
- Guide for young men about love affairs
- Augustus did not like it because he encouraged respectable marriages - Ovid was exiled to a distant part of the empire for the rest of his life
