Stage 3 Flashcards
VFR- on - top
Authorization by ATC to fly at any appropriate VFR altitude while on an IFR flight
plan
■ Must abide by both VFR and IFR rules
○ Can fly through clouds to get the prescribed altitude
○ If you decide to cancel IFR when on top of the clouds, you are now VFR-over-the-top
VFR-over-the top
○ Flying VFR over the top of clouds
○ Can not fly through clouds to get to the prescribed altitude
○ If you decide to cancel IFR when on top of the clouds, you are now VFR-over-the-top
What do departures and arrivals do
-Make ATCs life easier, gives the pilot all the info they need before so the flow is easier
- manages aircraft to avoid terrain and obstacles
- airspace management
- simplifies clearance delivery instructions ( the pilot knows what they will be doing to a point so simplify instructions
What is a SID
Standard instrument departure
○ Designed for IFR traffic to join airways enroute to their destination
What is a STAR
Standard terminal arrival routes
○ Facilitates transition for aircraft from enroute to approach procedures
What is an ODP
Obstacle departure procedures
provide obstruction clearance via the least onerous route from the terminal area to the appropriate en route structure
What is RNP
required navigation performance
- Applies to all RNAV approaches
- ensures 95% accuracy in modes
Mode Non-WAAS WAAS
- enroute (>30nm) 5NM 2NM
- terminal (30-2) 1NM 1NM
- approach (2-faf) .3NM .3NM
