100km North of London
Lies on the A1123 off of the A14
Regular trains to London
Close to A1 and east coast railway line
Housing
- The surrounding area is mainly farmland
- On the periphery of the town there has been many recent housing developments with a number of exclusive apartments being built
- however there has been an increased demean for bungalows, large houses and riverside apartments
Shops and services
These have changed over time. There are still butchers, greengrocers and bakers but also high status services like restaurants, antique dealers, designers, clothes shops and estate agents along with banks and building societies too.
Living standards
People in St Ives have higher incomes and standards of living than in many parts of the uk.
There is an ageing population, but also another section becoming more youthful.
Most of the working population is now employed outside of the town, commuting into london which increased during the 1990’s.
It is estimated that around 25% of the St Ives population now commutes to London.
