What is the MED and when was it set up? By whom? What was its aim?
A
Merseyside Development Corporation in 1981 by Michael Heseltine
The aim was to regenerate and improve the image, particularly the derelict dockland areas of the city, partly using EU funding. This followed the Toxeth Riots.
The Albert Dock was revamped as a tourist attraction, including the Merseyside Maritime Museum, the Tate Gallery, TV studios, restaurants, bars, offices and apartments.
