What are the expected pharmacological action?
A
Selectively block reuptake of the monoamine neurotransmitters serotonin in the synaptic space, thereby intensifying the effects of serotonin.

Major Depression OCD (Obsessive compulsive disorder) Bulimia nervosa Panic disorders PTSD

Common adverse effects?
A
CNS stimulation (insomnia, agitation, tremors, anxiety) Serotonin syndrome Sexual dysfunction
However, side effects are low, and therefore, are considered the first line of treatment.

What are the common contraindications and precautions
A
Contraindicated for concurrent use of MAOIs and TCAs.
Not to use Fluoxetine (Prozac) and Paroxetine (Paxil) when pregnant.
