SRA Terms M2.3 Flashcards
Daughterboard
A circuit board that connects to the motherboard to provide extra/more connections, and improve the overall usefulness of the motherboard.
Exabytes (EB)
It measures data storage, and is equal to 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 bytes, or one quintillion bytes.
Random-access memory (RAM)
Its a memory component of a computer and it stores data briefly, for fast access from the processor.
System Bus
Its internal transportation for the computer that transfers data to and from the CPU, memory and input/output devices.
Solid-state drive (SSD)
A non-volatile storage component that uses integrated circuits; retains data without a power in-put. It doesn’t use any moving parts, like a hard-drive would.
Hard disc drive (HDD)
Its a non-volatile storage component that uses magnetic discs and a little arm to gather data. Its slower than an SSD as it has to find the data; it retains data without a power in-put.
Gigabytes (GB)
Its a measurement of memory that measures digital information, the more GB you have the more room you’ll have for things like videos, pictures, files, etc. 1 GB is equal to 1,000,000,000 bytes.
Graphics Processing Unit (GPU)
The GPU helps create and display things like images, videos, animations, video games, etc run more smoothly and have a good visual.
Thermal Paste
Its a glue that also cools things down, its used for CPUs alongside a heat-sink to distribute heat evenly and allow for cooling.
Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion) Battery
A common battery thats in various devices such as mobile phones, laptops, tablets etc. Its rechargeable and re-usable.
External Drive
Its portable storage, that gives you more space for things like pictures, videos, files, etc. Its like a SSD or HDD but you can take it with you.
Real-Time Clock (RTC)
Its an internal clock inside the computer that keeps track of time, even if the computer is turned off.
