- walls of small blood vessels (capillaries)
- air sacs of the lungs (alveoli)

Explain the benefits of squamous tissue being thin
A
- permits diffusion of substances
- (materials can diffuse out of the capillaries)
- (in lungs; oxygen can diffuse across the alveoli and into the blood)

Rapid diffusion of gases between the air and the blood vessels underneath the epithelium
