Sports Studies Flashcards
What is Stroke Volume?
The amount of blood pumped out of the heart with each contraction
What is Cardiac Hypertrophy
The enlargement of the heart by increase in muscle wall thickness or chamber size or both
What is Cardiac Output?
The amount of blood pumped in 1 minute
What is Muscular Hypertrophy?
An increase in muscle mass or size
What is Blood Pressure?
Pressure exerted by the blood against the blood vessel walls
What is a Decreased Resting Heart Rate?
A long term effect of regular exercise, the heart gets better and stronger - therefore they can supply the same amount of blood with fewer beats
What are the effects of Lactic Acid build up?
Causes muscle fatigue and cramps
What is rotation?
Circular movement around an axis
What is Circumduction?
360 degree motion of the ball and socket joint
What is Stroke Volume?
The volume of blood pumped out by a ventricle with each heart beat
What some properties of Type 2x muscle fibres?
Fast glycolytic, use glycolysis, short period of time only, fatigue quickly
What are some properties of Type 1 Muscle Fibers?
Aerobic, Red Tonic, Slow twitch, Slow - oxidative
What is decreased blood pressure?
A physical benefit of exercise
Examples of Short Bones
Tarsals and Carpals
Example of Long Bones
Femur and Humerus
