What is a sports psychologist?
Considers ways to improve performance, achieve goals and strengthen their mental state.
What is mental practice
The use of mental imagery allows you to visually rehearse
Vivid images?
Imagine as much as possible

Imagine performing the task slowly
Observe experts?
Watch professionals perform the skill and imagine yourself doing the same.
What is the audience effect?
The effect the other people watching has on someone’s performance
What is an extrinsic motivation?
Results from reward that are external to the individual, eg trophy
Tangible rewards?
Something you can touch, eg, money, trophy
Intangible rewards?
An internal reward eg, applause, praise, happiness.
Intrinsic motivation
Something you do to make yourself happy
Need for achievement (nAch)
The desire to compete with a standard of excellence
Imposter phenomenon?
The feeling that their greatness is due to luck and not skill.
What is the Yerkes Dodson law?
States that we need to maintain a level of arousal in order to perform at our best
