Personality is
the sum of all characteristics that makes a person unique.
Nature vs. nurture characteristics:
nature:
innate, biological, enduring, consistent.
Nurture:
Experiences, modelling, significant others, learnt.
Social learning theory: Bandura
Behaviour is learnt through socialisation and maintained through reinforcement.
Interactionalist theory: Hollander
combination of traits and social learning theory:

Attitudes formed:
Past experiences, role models, stereotypes.
Triadic model: attitudes
Cognitive- thoughts
Affective- feelings
Behavioural- doing
Cognitive dissonance:
disrupting the triadic model.
Persuasive communication:
Target/ inform cognitive thoughts to challenge.
- High status, role model, clear message, message relevance.
Arousal:
Level of activation and readiness.
RAS controls arousal, direction, and intensity of it.
Dominant response:
Makes high levels of performance.
All theories:
- Inverted U theory (experience, task difficulty)
- Catastrophe theory
- Zone of optimal functioning theory (optimum arousal and anxiety levels make high levels of performance.)
- Peak flow experience ( the ultimate intrinsic performance experience by a positive mindset)
