What was the royal court?
A large group of people who surrounded the Queen at all times.
Who attended the Royal court?
Over 1000 people including Elizabeths personal servants, members of the privy council, nobles, ambassadors and other foreign visitors.
What were the Queens favourite Sport which became an important part of court life?
- hunting deer and other wild animals as it was a form of entertainment as well as a source of court food
- hawking which involved training Falcons to Hunt and was an extensive process which only the rich could afford
- Elizabeth’s courtiers and noblemen were expected to be skilled at fencing. Tennis and bowls were also becoming increasingly popular.
What did ordinary people do throughout the week?
Work for 6 days and go Church on Sundays.
What were the two festival days?
Midsummers say and Ascension day.
What was a popular lower class sport?
Football
What were blood sports which people would often gamble on?
Cockfighting and Bull- or Bear-baiting.
