What is meant by emergency preparedness?
Being properly equipped and trained for any medical crisis or disaster
What is the importance of having a written emergency action plan?
To have a well thought out plan that can deal with injuries and is logically thought through and systematic to avoid mishaps or mistakes
Define the four basic components of the emergency action plan
- Emergency personal- Trained a equipped people to help, that know their role and are ready.
- Emergency communication- Someone ready to call EMS and direct them as needed
- Emergency equipment- ready, tested and close by
- Emergency transportation- make sure there is transportation set up in case of an emergency
How is the EMS system activated in most schools?
Readily available information: phone number, address (specific), number of injured athletes, condition of the athlete, current care of the athlete, and anymore information needed by dispatcher
Define Medical Emergency
When an athlete is in threat of losing a life or limb
Examples: No pulse, loss of consciousness, severe bleeding, breathing trouble, neck or spinal injury, eye injury, or sever asthma attack
What are non medical emergencies
When an athlete is not in danger of losing a life or limb
Examples: Bruise, sprained muscles, strained muscle, scrape, concussion without consciousness, abrasions.
Why is it important to have a emergency medical cards at every practice and game?
So that athletic trainers and EMS have quick assess to any information they might need for the injured athlete. Gives information such as, allergies, past injuries, phone number to guardian and suggested hospital
How to make a good EAP for your specific school?
Have good customization for the school, personalized EAP.
What is the most important thing to keep in mine while developing an EAP?
