Q

DESC formula for expressing yourself more assertively

A

o Describe – the situation as you see it. Paint a verbal picture of the others person’s behavior. “When I’m told this, I feel this…”
o Express your feelings – “When you do this, it makes me feel like…”
o Specify what you would like to change. “I would prefer you give me this, rather than that” or “I would appreciate if you don’t talk behind my back”.
o Consequences to expect…this may not be greeted with openness but might lead to a better understanding or improved relationship.

Q

“Four OLVES”

A

invOLVE – make the group the target of the change, begin by having a team dialog about what constitutes an effective team culture and the necessary team commitment and buy in to that.
resOVLE – as problems and conflicts arise during the season, have the team come up with collective solutions and hold one another accountable and responsible for their actions.
absOLVE – once the problem is resolved, move on and leave it behind
