Athlete to athlete communication

Arrogant Listening
listeners are more interested in what they have to say as opposed to what the other person is saying.
Superficial or Inattentive Listening
listeners tune out quickly once they think they have enough information to decipher what the speaker’s intent is.
Active Listening
listener is
attuned,
connected,
engaged,
tries to understand what the other person has to say.
SOLER technique for Active Listening
- Square yourself

- Lean toward the person

Assertive Training
Being honest and straight forward with a person’s thoughts, feelings, and beliefs in an appropriate way. Very hard to do as it must be learned and practiced.
To improve Communication, consider these strategies
a. Team comes first and everyone is on board with that
b. Listen to one another
c. Learn how to give and receive constructive feedback (How?)
d. Be tolerant – we shouldn’t get upset by the little things
e. Avoid backstabbing and gossip
f. Resolve confrontations privately
g. Realize that not all conflicts can be resolved – agree to disagree. (Relationships)
