What is spondylolysis

A
  • defect in the pars interarticularis of the vertebral arch
  • stress fracture pars interarticularis
  • fracture normally occurs on the side opposite to the one performing the activity
  • can be bilateral or unilateral
  • males affected 2-3 more times than females

  • innapropriate training volumes/ sporting surfaces

  • lack of trunk stability/strength

what are the symptoms of spondylolysis

A

PAIN

  • unilateral/bilteral
  • sharp to chronic dull ache
  • may radiate to buttock
  • aggravated by lumbar extension/rotation

A
  • pain reproduced on extension +/- rotation while standing on affected leg
  • increased lumbar lordosis
  • tenderness on palpation of fracture site
