Splinting Flashcards
What is a resting pan splint?
thumb is in slight abduction and on volar surface of fingers/hand/and wrist
Why choose an immobilization splint?
to protect, prevent, rest, reduce inflammation after surgery
Why choose a restrictive splint?
limit ROM but dont stop joint motion
What is the purpose of a mobilization splint?
increase limited ROM or restore function… may help week muscles
What is considered a functional wrist position?
wrist 20-30d extension
MCP 45-60 flex
PIP/DIP 15-30flex
thumb opposition
What is the temperature for LTT materials?
135-180
Describe rigidity for splinting material?
stength… strong and resistant to stress.. used for larger splints for spasticity
Why is memory important for OT?
allows us to reheat and reshape splint without the material stretching
Why is drapability important? What is the difference between high and low?
high drapability is best b/c it conforms to arches/bony prominences (stretches well)
Low drapability is for larger splint requiring firm handling (doesnt stretch well)
