Spirometry Flashcards
Inspiration reserve volume
Is the maximum volume of air you can breathe in and and above a normal inhalation
Tidal volume
Volume of air that moves in and out of the lungs with each resting breath ( about 500cm3 %15)
Residual volume
Volume of air that is left in your lungs when you have exhaled as hard as possible.
Cannot be removed otherwise lungs would collapse
Expiratory reserve volume
Is the extra amount of air you can force out of your lungs over and above the normal tidal volume of air you breathe out
Total lung capacity
Sum of the vital capacity and residual volume
Vital capacity
The volume of air the can be breathed in when the strongest possible exhalation is followed by the deepest intake of breath
What type of function is spirometry
Pulmonary
What type of condition could a spirometry test asses
Asthma
Pulmonary fibrosis
