Spinoza beliefs
-feeling of freedom was simply ignorance
-he considered everything in world totally determined by physical causes, and therefore there was no scope for human freedom
-we merely consider ourselves to be free because we’re ignorant of all causes operating upon us
Spinoza - Obvious
-if u stop and think about it/ pointed out to you it may appear obvious
-but you normally act without considering all those influences, the approach taken by Spinoza Is therefore reasonable as far as it goes
-if you knew absolutely everything there is to know they you would understand that there are very good reasons for every apparently ‘free’ decision that you make. You think you’re making a completely free choice, but that simply reflects your ignorance of causes operating on you
Spinoza main beliefs
- free decisions illusory
2.individual not aware of causes of action
3.appetites, emotions and desires vary according to bodily states
4.we cant freely decide to remember or forget a so called idea of mind - all purported acts of will are deducible from laws of nature
