Spinocerebellar Tract Flashcards
1
Q
What does the SCT do?
A
Relays information regarding unconscious proprioception to the cerebellum. Dorsal relays muscle stretch, ventral relays interneuron stuff.
2
Q
Describe the SCT pathway.
A
- Primary axons synapse in nucleus dorsalis.
- Secondary fibers go from nucleus dorsalis to the cerebellum, without crossing the midline. Fibers enter the cerebellum via the inferior cerebellar peduncles.
3
Q
Describe the ventral SCT pathway.
A
Follows same path as dorsal SCT but uses superior cerebellar peduncles.
4
Q
Where do fibers of the dorsal SCT cross the midline?
A
They don’t.
5
Q
Where do fibers of the ventral SCT cross the midline?
A
They cross twice. Once in the cord and second time in pons as fibers enter superior cerebellar peduncle.
6
Q
What side of body would damage to SCT (e.g. Freidrich’s ataxia) appear?
A
Ipsilateral side for dorsal SCT. Think about ventral SCT.
