Spinal Cord Anatomy Flashcards
What distinguishes Afferent from efferent? What about autonomic and somatic?
Afferent is to the CNS, efferent is from the CNS. Somatic is skeletal muscle, autonomic is everything else.
Where do the Afferent axons enter the spinal cord?
The dorsal side.
Where do the efferent axons enter the spinal cord?
Ventral side
Name the spinal cord segments.
Why is the grey matter dark and the white matter white?
Because the cell bodies are stained and grey matter has cell bodies white matter has axons.
What are the arrows point to?
Where is the section of the spine ?
Options:
Butt
Waist
Chest
Throat
Chest
Define dorsal horn
Receives input from afferent neurons. , ( sensory neurons )
Define ventral horn.
Contains somatic motor neurons.
What does the lateral horn contain?
Located in the thoracic spinal cord:
Contains sympathetic preganglionic neruon cell bodies.
Why are the dorsal and ventral horns so much bigger in the sacral spinal cord than the thoracic spinal cord?
Because there are many more neurons inner aging the legs than the trunk.
Define dorsal root ganglion
Cluster of Afferent neuron cell bodies.
What is this?
