Spinal Cord Flashcards
spinal cord can be divided into what 5 segments? How many nerves in each?
Cervical - 8 nerves thoracic -12 nerves lumbar - 5 nerves sacral - 5 serves Coccyx - 1 nerve
what are the 2 spinal enlargements?
Cervical Enlargement -C4-T1
Lumbosacral Enlargement -L2-S3
where does the spinal cord end?
L1-L2
what controls the external urethral sphincter?
somatic motor efferents
what controls the internal urethral sphincter?
sympathetic efferents
what is the posterior column split into? is this the start of an ipslateral tract or contralateral?
fasciculus gracilis/ facicilus cutaneatus
ipslateral
Which posterior column deals with lower limb?
lower limb (sacral and lumbar)
which posterior column deals with the upper limb?
upper limb (cervical & thoracic )
which tract deals with the voluntary movement of the extremities?
lateral corticospinal tract
which tract deals with the core and respond to changes to create core stability?
anterior corticospinal tract
why does the anterior corticospinal tract innervate both the ipslateral and contralateral lower motor neurons?
so that if there was an injury to one side you would still be able to control your abdominals/posture
