  1. Plastic hard-walled container to hold the kit contents.
  2. Sharps container.
  3. Reusable items container.
  4. PPE (minimum) which includes:
    a. 2 pairs of goggles/face shield
    b. 2 pairs of nitrile gloves
    c. 2 face mask and N95 respirator
    d. 2 pairs plastic, vinyl or rubber shoe covers
    e. 2 pieces head cover
    f. 2 disposable gowns and coveralls
  5. Absorption materials
    a. towels/paper towels
    b. commercial spill pads/spill pillows
  6. Cleanup tools and materials
    a. small disposable broom
    b. biohazard waste bags
    c. plastic ties/rubber bands
    d. forceps and tongs
    e. concentrated bleach with bottled water for dilution
    f. 70% alcohol

What are the general guidelines for ALL biological spills?

A
  1. Report all spills to the Biosafety officer & supervisor
  2. Perform hand hygiene before and after clean-up
  3. Don appropriate PPE before clean-up.
  4. Use freshly prepared 10% household bleach solution; allow at least 20-30 mins contact time.
  5. Dispose off clean-up materials as biohazard waste and place on a biohazard bag. Then autoclave

Give the steps for a proper biological spill response.

A
  1. Do not panic
  2. Inform/Alert the people
  3. Remove contaminated clothing and wash affected area with water and soap (if applicable)
  4. Perform hand hygiene and leave the area of spill
  5. Close the area, post a Do Not Enter sign
