spheres of the earth Flashcards
atmosphere + layers
Atmosphere
Layer of gases extending from the surface of the Earth upwards hundreds of kilometers.
78% N2 gas
21% O2 gas
<1% Argon gas, CO2 gas, H20 vapour + other gases
Layers of the Atmosphere !!
Troposphere - where the weather forms. (0-16 km) {first “level”}
Stratosphere - where the protective ozone layer exists. O3 (16-50 km) {second “level”}
Mesosphere - where meteor showers occur. (50-80 km) {third “level”}
Thermosphere - temperature rises to 230℃, where northern lights are visible (80-640 km) {fourth “level”}
Exosphere - air dwindles to nothing as particles. {final “level”}
lithosphere
The outermost level of the Earth’s surface, consisting of rocks and minerals.
hydrosphere
Consists of all water, on, above and below Earth’s surface.
geosphere
any of the almost spherical concentric regions of matter that make up the earth and its atmosphere, as the lithosphere and hydrosphere.
antrosphere
Man-made, the human population, buildings, etc.
cryosphere
Solid water
