spheres of the earth Flashcards

1
Q

atmosphere + layers

A

Atmosphere
Layer of gases extending from the surface of the Earth upwards hundreds of kilometers.
78% N2 gas
21% O2 gas
<1% Argon gas, CO2 gas, H20 vapour + other gases

Layers of the Atmosphere !!
Troposphere - where the weather forms. (0-16 km) {first “level”}
Stratosphere - where the protective ozone layer exists. O3 (16-50 km) {second “level”}
Mesosphere - where meteor showers occur. (50-80 km) {third “level”}
Thermosphere - temperature rises to 230℃, where northern lights are visible (80-640 km) {fourth “level”}
Exosphere - air dwindles to nothing as particles. {final “level”}
