Sperry - Biological Flashcards
Why is Sperry’s study in the biological area?
It investigates regions of the brain and lateralisation of brain function. It demonstrated the importance of the Corpus Callosum as a communication pathway between the two hemispheres and provided evidence that each hemisphere has different functions.
What are the conclusions drawn from Sperry’s study?
The brain consists of two seemingly independent hemispheres.
What were the participants in Sperry’s study?
11 split-brain patients who had already experienced their Corpus Callosum being severed prior to the study. 2 had this operation done some time before the experiment whereas the other nine had it done recently.
This was an opportunity sample.
All participants had a history of epilepsy.
