Verbs ending in consonant +Y:
drop Y, adds IES, IED.
Hurries, studies, replies
studied, applied, tried.
Verbs ending vowel+Y:
just add S, ED.
Pays, enjoys.
Payed, enjoyed.
Irregular:
Goes, does.
Doubling consonants:
verb ends in Vowel+consonant, doubled the consonant.
Stopping, planning, rubbing, swimming, running, tipping.
Stopped, planned.
Verbs ending in E:
drop E and adds ING.
Living, coming, taking, arguing.
Verbs ending in doubled E, don’t drop the E.
Agreeing, seeing, freeing, disagreeing.
When the verb is two syllables, we double the consonant when the stress is in the last syllable.
We don’t double the consonant when the stress is not in the last syllable.
Referred, preferred, regretted.
Visited, answered.
