speech testing Flashcards
1
Q
speech detection/speech awareness threshold (SDT/SAT)
A
- used when patient cannot repeat words
- can use with children, foreign speakers, developmental delay, brain injury. etc.
- has limited diagnostic value
- can be used to estimate SRT
- usually is 10-15 dB lower than SRT
- CANNOT be used to predict pure tone average
- usually obtained using childs name
2
Q
what does SDT measure
A
the patients ability to DETECT the presence of speech
-do not need to identify word
3
Q
SRT and pure tone
A
should be similar
4
Q
speech recognition threshold (SRT)
A
- obtained by having pt point to pictures of repeat spondaic words back
- useful for gaining info about child’s hearing sensitivity in 500-2000 Hz
5
Q
speech discrim/ word recognition (WRT)
A
- can help understand the impact of HL on speech understanding abilities
- list of phonetically balanced words read to pt 45 dB ABOVE SRT and repeat back word
- scored as a percentage
- %es broken down in ranges (poor, good, etc)
- poor score may reflect retro cochlea loss
- score doesn’t always match audio
