speech testing Flashcards

1
Q

speech detection/speech awareness threshold (SDT/SAT)

A
  • used when patient cannot repeat words
  • can use with children, foreign speakers, developmental delay, brain injury. etc.
  • has limited diagnostic value
  • can be used to estimate SRT
  • usually is 10-15 dB lower than SRT
  • CANNOT be used to predict pure tone average
  • usually obtained using childs name

Q

speech discrim/ word recognition (WRT)

A
  • can help understand the impact of HL on speech understanding abilities
  • list of phonetically balanced words read to pt 45 dB ABOVE SRT and repeat back word
  • scored as a percentage
  • %es broken down in ranges (poor, good, etc)
  • poor score may reflect retro cochlea loss
  • score doesn’t always match audio
