hypoglossal nerve (CN XII) innervates all extrinsic tongue muscles (genioglossus, hyoglossus, styloglossus)

what is the course of the hypoglossal nerve (CNXII)?
leaves the skull via the hypoglossal canal and descends in the carotid sheath
what are the sensory and motor components of the gag reflex?
sensory: (CN IX) glossopharyngeal nerve conveys sensory info from the posterior 1/3 of tongue and naso/oropharynx
motor: CN X vagus nerve
what happens to the uvula is the vagus nerve is damaged (CN X)?
uvula deviates away from damaged side
whch nerves leave the brain via the jugular foramen?
CN X (vagus nerve), CN XI (accessory nerve), and internal jugular vein
