Who writes the BIP?
Behavior Support Team (BST) that includes the administrator, behavior specialist, school representative (teachers who work with the student), parents
BIP
Behavior Improvement Plan
Description of target behavior & hypotheses for why it occurs (ABCs) based on the FBA
Interventions are PROACTIVE (adjust environment to prevent), EDUCATIVE (teach skills), & EFFECTIVE (manage consequences to reinforce)
Separate from the IEP but documented in it, reviewed annually
FBA
Functional Behavior Assessment: conducted with parental consent
Determines the purpose of a behavior: data for the frequency, duration, and patterns of the behavior along with ABCs
Multiple data sources: direct observation, info from student/parents/teacher/service providers, & data records
Required for a BIP
IEP
Student plan for school (reviewed annually), must be written within 30 days of determining eligibility
3-22 yrs or graduation
States student strengths & needs
Has dates and location of services
Written by an IEP team with school psychologist, SPED teacher, parent, and other specialists
504 plan
For K-12 students not covered in SPED with an IEP: legally binding accommodations
Written after a school evaluation by the school nurse, caregiver, & 504 coordinator
Reviewed annually
IFSP
Individual Family Service Plan
Present functioning levels & development needs
Results or outcomes expected
Dates & location (in a natural environment) for services
Info on family support & nutrition services
Steps to transition to preschool or IEP
0-3yrs
Reviewed every 6 months, updated annually
Who writes the IFSP?
Parents, service coordinator responsible for implementing the IFSP, & the specialist who conducted the evaluations
Manifestation Determination
Meeting that occurs within 10 days of misbehavior that could cause a student with an IEP to be removed/suspended from their placement for more than 10 days.
Determines if the student can be punished or if it is a part of the disability, & if the issue has been address/managed properly by the school
Attended by district representative, parents, IEP team members
