Spectroscopy and Dilution Flashcards
What is a chromophore?
A chromophore is the part of a molecule which when exposed to visible light will absorb and reflect a certain colour
What is blue dextran?
A large polysaccharide containing attached blue dye
What is haemoglobin?
The major protein found in red blood cells
It contains an iron-haem group that binds oxygen
What type of light do proteins absorb?
Proteins absorb light in the UV range
What is the equation for absorbance using a spectrophotometer?
Absorbance = log (Incidence light/transmitted light)
What does molarity mean?
Moles per litre
mol/L
What is the equation for molarity?
(Grams/Litre)/(Molecular Mass)
Molarity = (g/L)/(g/mol)
What is the dilution equation?
C1V1 = C2V2
C1 = stock conc V1 = stock vol C2 = dilution conc V2 = dilution volume
