Social development
Social development refers to the ability to make relationships and attachments with other people.
Children need to develop their knowledge and skills in order to do this, such as being able to adapt their behaviours in line with the values of others and understanding other people’s thoughts and intentions.
Physical development
Physical development concerns the way that children learn to move and coordinate their bodies. It is divided into 3 areas:
Fine motor skills
Gross motor skills
Locomotive skills
Emotional development
Emotional development is about the au children develop awareness of their feelings and learn to express and control them appropriately.
Cognitive development
Cognitive development relates to the way that children learn to think and process information.
Cognitive development includes being able to make connections between new information and previous experiences.
Language development
Language development is about our ability to talk, understand what others are saying and interpret facial expressions and body gestures.
