What do some physical quantities consist of?
some physical quantities consist of a numerical magnitude and a unit e.g. Time in seconds, mass in kg…
The unit prefixes…
pico (p)10^-12, nano (n)10^-9, micro (μ)10^-6, milli (m) 10^-3, centi (c)10^-2, kilo (k)10^3, mega (M)10^6, giga (G)10^9, tera (T)10^12
define scalar and vector quantities and give examples
Scalar- a quantity with magnitude, but not direction e.g. Mass, distance, speed…
Vector- a quantity with magnitude and direction e.g. Velocity, momentum, electrical current
draw and use a vector triangle to determine the resultant of two coplanar vectors such as displacement, velocity and force;
Vector triangle rules-
In drawing the triangle, A+B=C
They have to be right angled triangles to work out the resultant.
Pythagoras for the length, soh cah toa for the angle which gives the direction.
