Specific immune system Flashcards
What part of the complemen t system is activated in second exposure ?
Classical pathway.
What triggers the classical pathway ?
Antigen-antibody complex
What cells are in the adaptive immune system ?
It involves T and B cells
Where do B cells mature ?
Bone marrow
When B cells are activated, what do they turn into ?
- Once activated by an antigen, it multiplies furiously to become either plasma cells or memory b cells.
- Plasma cells produce fast amounts of antibodies against that specific pathogen.
- Memory B cells wait for future infections.
Where do T cells mature ?
Thymus
Where are T and B cells typically located, awaiting for an infection ?
- They spend most of their time in the lymph nodes and mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue.
What are the two types of T cells ?
CD4
CD8
what do CD4 T cells become ?
T helper cells
What do CD8 cells become ?
Cytotoxic T cells
What do T helper cells do ?
Provide signals to other cells
What do cytotoxic t cells do ?
Kill infected cells eg virally infected
What receptor does CD4 cells respond to ?
MHC class II receptors
What receptors do CD8 cells respond to ?
MHC class I receptors
What cell produces antibodies ?
Plasma cells
which came from B cells
