specific heat capacity Flashcards
what is specific heat capacity
how hard it is to heat something up
what happens to minerals that gain a lot of energy to warm up
the transfer alot of energy when the cool down
how do you calculate change in thermal energy
mass x specific heat capacity x temp change
8 step practical of specific heat capacity
1) you need a block of the material withe 2 holes in it
2)measure the mass of the block then wrap it in an insulated layer
3)measure the temp, set the potential difference of power supply to 10v
4) turn of the power supply and start a stop watch
5) take readings of the temp and current every min for 10 mins
6) once you collected the reading turn off the power supply and calculate the power supplied to the heater using P=VI
7)plot the graph of energy transferred
8) find the gradient
