Specialised Cells & Cells To Organs Flashcards
Function of a Xylem
It transports water and solutes from the roots to the leaves of a plant
Function of a Root hair cell
Absorbs water and mineral ions from the soil
Function of a Palisade cell
Carries out photosynthesis to make their own food (glucose)
Plant cell or animal cell : Xylem, Root hair cell, palisade cell
Plant cells
Function of a Red blood vessel
Transports oxygen around the body to cells for respiration
Function of a Small intestine
The lining of the small intestine to absorb small food molecules and nutrients (glucose)
Function of a Sperm cell
Male … cell for fertilising a female egg cell. Contains half the genetic information from the father
Function of an Egg cell
Female … cell to be fertilised by a male sperm cell. Contains half of the mother’s genetic information
Function of a Nerve cell
Send and receive electrical impulses to an from the brain and spinal cord
Function of a Ciliated epithelial cell
Have cilia covered in mucus which trap dust, bacteria and unwanted substances in the respiratory system. They waft these up to the mouth where they are swallowed.
Where is a root hair cell found
Underground in roots of a plant (plants)
Where is a sperm cell found
Males
Smallest cell in a male’s body (animals)
Where is an egg cell found
Females (ovaries)
One of the largest cells in female body (animals)
Where is a red blood cell found
Circulatory system (animals)
Where is a ciliated epithelial cell found
Respiratory system (animals)
In lining of the nose, trachea and lungs
