Specialised Cells Flashcards
What are different about specialised cells?
They have a particular function
What is the specialised cells for digestion?
Small intestine epithelial cells
What do small intestine Epithilial cells do?
( lining cells )
Allow for absorption of digested food molecules.
What is special about the small intestine epithilial cells?
Small folds called microvilli which increase surface area for efficient food absorption
What does a small intestine epithelial cell consist of?
Nucleus
Mitochondria
Cytoplasm
Why does the small intestine contain lots of mitochondria?
To release energy for smooth muscle contraction
This pushes food through the digestive systems
Why does the pancreas produce lots of enzymes?
For digestion of large insoluble food molecules to be broken down to smaller soluble food molecules
Enzymes are
Proteins
Proteins are made in the
Ribosomes
Pancreas contains lots of
Ribosomes
What are sex cells called
Gametes
Animal male gametes are called
Sperm
Female animal gametes are called
Ovum or egg
Plant sex cells male are called
Pollen
Female plant sex cells are called
Ovum or egg
