Specialised Cells Flashcards
voluntary (skeletal muscles) are
Muscles that make you move. They surround your bones and only move when you make them
The three types of specialised cell are
Voluntary (skeletal muscles), involuntary (smooth muscles), cardiac muscles
Involuntary (smooth) muscles are
Muscles that move without you thinking about it. They are the muscles involved in breathing, and those that keep food moving through your gut
Cardiac muscles are
Your heart muscles. They never get tired, so have a continuos supply of mitochondria.
They are involuntary muscles
The role of nerves is
To carry information from your brain to around your body. Some nerve cells have very long fibres called axon, extending from the cell. These allow the cell to carry messages over long distances.
The 2 types of blood cell are
White and red
What are red blood cells
Carry oxygen through your lungs through haemoglabin
White blood cells
Are part of the immune system
Platelets
Stop bleeding and help heal wounds
Plasma
Clear yellowing liquid is what the red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets are suspended in
Brown fat cells
Produce heat for the body
White fat cells
Store energy. They also form an insulating layer under the skin that helps keep your body at a constant temperature
