Cells Flashcards
An animal cell is a bit like a
Clear balloon filled with water or clear jelly
What is the role of the nucleus
The control centre of the cell. It controls all the chemical reactions in the cell, how it develops and how it reproduces
What is the role of the Cell membrane
The skin that holds the cell together. It controls what comes into and leaves the cell
What is the role of a cytoplasm
A watery jelly like mixture that controls many smaller parts where the work of the cell takes place
Vacuole
There may be several very small vacuoles in an animal cell. They may contain wastes of chemicals that are being moved around the cell.
What is mitochondria
The powerhouses of the cell, which release energy from food
What are ribosomes
Microscopic factories that produce the proteins used by the body for growth and repair
What are Lysosomes
The garbage disposal units that get rid of wastes from the cell
What is the endoplasmic reticulum
Form pathways that allow materials to move quickly and easily throughout the cell
What are the organelles
Mitochondria, ribosomes, lysosomes, endoplasmic reticulum
Where are organelles found
In the cytoplasm
What is a plant cell like
Brick work
Cells are
The building blocks of all living things
What do plant cells have that animal cells don’t?
A large vacuole, a cell wall, chloroplasts
Why do plant cells have a cell wall
Because plants don’t have skeletons, so they have cell walls to keep them sturdy
