Specialised cells Flashcards
what is a specialised cell?
cell that have a sttructure which makes them adapt to their function
what is the function of sperm cell?
it is to carry the male DNA to the egg ( ovum)
describe the structure of a sperm cell
- streamlined head and tail to aid swimming
- many mitochondria – for energy
- a acrosome has digestive enzymes which help break the outer layer of the membrane
what is the function of egg cell?
it is to carry the female DNA and nourish the embryo
describe the structure of a egg cell
- it contains nutrients in the cytoplasm
- have a haploid nucleus
what is the function of a nerve cell?
to send electrical signals from onr body to another
describe the structure of a nerve cell
- axon is long - enabline impulses to be carried in long distance
- mitochondria- for energy for chemical exchange ( neurotransmitter ) this allows the impulse to be one cell
what is the function of a muscle cell?
to contract quickly to move bones or sequeeze
describe the structure of a muscle cell
- has special protein - causing your muscle to contract
- has lot of mitochondria - respiration (contration)
- store chemical glycogen for respiration
what is the function of a xylem cell ?
to transport water and mineral from the roots and soots
describe the structure of phloem cell
- allowing movement of substance from cell to cell
- need mitochondria
- cell walls that form structure of seive plates
what is the function of a phloem cell ?
to carry photosynthesis to all parts of the plant
describe the structure of a xylem cell
- ligmin- which causes the cells to die
- hollow, allows water and mineral to pass through
