Specialised animal cells Flashcards
Give two examples of animal cells
Nerve cell
Sperm cell
What is the job of the nerve cell?
To conduct electrical impulses
What is the job of the sperm cell?
to travel towards and fertilise an egg
How is a nerve cell specialised?
Nucleus - has half the full chromosome
Mitochondria - to transfer energy to the tail
Tail - swim towards the egg
Acrosome - contains enzymes to break through the eggs outer layer
How is a nerve cell specialised?
Dendrites - connect with other cells
Myelin sheath - insulate the impulse
Synapses - send neurotransmitter to another nerve cell
Axon - long, condusts electrial impulses in one direction
What is the job of the dendrites (nerve cell)?
connect with other cells
What is the job of the myelin sheath (nerve cell)?
insulate the impulse
What is the job of the synapses (nerve cell)?
send neurotransmitter to another nerve cell or effector
What is the job of the Axon (nerve cell)?
conducts electrial impulses in one direction
What is the job of the Mitochondria (Sperm cell)?
transfer energy to the tail
What is the job of the Acrosome (Sperm cell)?
contains enzymes to break through the eggs outer layer
Name the three types of muscle cell
Cardiac
Smooth
Skeletal
What are the two types of muscle cell categories?
Involuntary & Voluntary
Name the 3 things a muscle cell has to help it
Special proteins
Many mitochondria
Glycogen
What is the job of Glycogen (Muscle cell)?
to store energy in the form of glucose
