- ankle is free
- and not supinated

- one hand stabilises other side ASIS
- other hand on the knee crossed over

- external rotation of the knee
- by slowly lowering the test leg down to the plinth
what is the special test for greater trochanteric syndrome?
- Trendelenburg sign
what is the starting position for the greater trochanteric syndrome test?
- pt in standing
- asked to stand on one leg without leaning
what do you need to ensure is around for the greater trochanteric syndrome test?
- have the plinth/ wall available
- aids balance
what should you observe in the greater trochanteric syndrome test? what normally happens?
- observe the pelvis during the single leg stance
- pelvis normally rises on opposite side
when is the greater trochanteric syndrome test positive?
- inability to keep pelvis parallel to the ground
- pelvis on the other side drops
what does the pelvis drop in the greater trochanteric syndrome test indicate?
- weak hip abductors
- instability due to hip dislocation
what is the special test for adductor strains?
- squeeze test
what is the pt starting position in hip adductor strain special test?
- pt in supine
what do the hands do in the hip adductor strain test?
- form a fist
- place between patients knees in 0, 45 and 90 degrees of hip flexion
what is the pt asked to do in the adductor strains special test? why?
- asked to squeeze examiner’s fist
- contracts adductor muscles
when is the hip adductor strain special test positive?
- pain in adductor muscles
