Q

Hearing Pathway?

A

Sound Produced

  1. Goes in Pinna
  2. into External Auditory Canal
  3. Vibrates the Tympanic membrane, connected to ossicles causing
  4. Malleus vibrates then
  5. Incus vibrates then
  6. Stapes vibrates against the
  7. Oval window of the Cochlea which
  8. vibrates Perilymph in the Scala Vestibuli casuing the
  9. Vestibular Membrane to vibrate
10a. Vibrations also travel in the Vestibular Duct to the apex of the cochlea (go to step 15)
10b. which causes the Endolymph of Cochlear duct to vibrate which
11a. vibrates the Basilar Membrane, moving hair cells of
12a. the Organ of Corti against Techotial membane
13a. Hair cells synpase with Spiral Ganglian, sending signals to
14a. the Cochlear Branch of the Vestibular Nerve
10b. Vibrations also travel in the Vestibular Duct to the apex of the cochlea
  10. Sound from the apex of the cochlea and vestibular nerve transmitted to Perilymph of Scala Tympani
  11. Sound enrgy then dissipated through Round Window into air in the middle ear cavity.

Q

Visual Pathway

A

Light goes to

  1. Cornea, then to
  2. Aqueous Humor, then to
  3. Lens, then to
  4. Vitreous Humor then to

then passes through two layer of transparent cells in the retina

  1. Ganglion Cells then to
  2. Bipolar Cell Layer which stimulates
  3. Rods and Cones, creating action potentials (go to 9)
  4. light is abosrbed at Pigmented Epithelium at the retina and the underlying choroid layer (middle layer in wall of eye)
  5. Action potenitals go from Rods and Cones to
  6. Bipolar layer then to
  7. Ganglian cells who leave the retina at the Optic disc (blind spot) this becomes the
  8. Optic Nerve whcih crosses at the optic chiasm and becomes the
  9. Optic Tract which goes to to the
  10. Thalamus, which sends info to Occipital Lobe
