Define special dental needs
Where a child has a condition that:
- Puts their general health at risk if she/she suffers dental disease
- Makes access to dental care difficult
- Makes dental treatment more difficult to provide

What do we mean by high risk
A patient more likely to get severe dental caries
What do we mean by high priority
A patient who had the same risk as everyone else but if they get dental disease it may have more serious implications
Why might children with chronic illness have more dental disease
- Dental health low on priority
- Over indulged
- Long term sugar medication
What can enamel defects be caused by
- Cardiac
- Low birth weight
- Preterm
- Cystic fibrosis

- Teeth are more susceptible to dental caries
