What do you give to help prevent pre eclampsia in pregnancy?

What are the advantages/disadvatages of a COCP?
Advantages - 24 hour window/well tolerated and good efficacy
Disadvangates - Increase in breast and cervical cancerl
Dont take with migraine with aura
Dont take if DVT/PE history or risk
Dont take if CV risk factors
Dont take less than 6 weeks after birth

What are the advantages/disadvatages of progesterone pill
Advantages - can take with CV risk factors
Can stop or make periods lighter
Take every day so don’t have to remember when to take it
Disadvantages - Progesterogenic side effects - Nauses, cramping, bloating, breast tenderness

What are the advantages/disadvatages or Mirena (progesterone) coil?
How long does it last?
Advatanges - Reduces mennorrhagia
Disadvantages - Progestenic side effects. Can increase bleeing at the start but then leads to amenorrhea
Lasts 5 - 10 years
How does a copper coil work?
Barrier, no hormones
How does the implant work and for how long does it last?
Where does it go?
Progesterone so progesterogenic side effects
Lasts for 3 years and goes to non dominant arm sub dermal
How does the injection work?
Every 12 weeks, progesterone injection
Who can have contraception?
Over 16
13 - 16 if competent
Under 13 call police
What do you do if the miss the progesterone only pill:
Within 3 hours
After 3 hours
(Cerazette is 12 hours)
Within - Take as soon as you remember and take the next one - you dont need extra contraception
After 3 hours - Take when you remember even if it means doubling - use condoms for 48 hours and if you have unprotected sex get emergency contraception
How do you take the COCP?
21 days on and week off.
Start new pack on first day of period
What do you do i you have missed one COCP?
Take as soon as you remember even if it means two together
You dont need extra protection
What do you do if you miss two or more COCP?
Take as soon as you remember and use extra precautions for 7 days
If missed in week 1 and had sex - emergency contraception
If missed in week 2 and had sex - no need for emergency if had 7 days continuous
If missed in week 3 - omit pill free interval
Theoretically covered for 7 days
